We work with organic plant oils, the highest quality essential oils, and month-long herbal solar-infusions to offer gently cleansing and deeply nourishing soap for self and space. breathe deeply ✿
That last day. We were standing on what felt like the edge of the world, cliffside at Muriwai Beach, New Zealand. Our car rental doors were open, music was playing, and we looked down at the black sand beach, trying to wrap our minds around the journey that was ending. That was our last destination after living out of suitcases for the better part of a year, just the two of us, planning as we went along. We had no idea what to expect when we boarded the flight back to Boston the next day. We had both quit our jobs, left our lease, and weren't sure what the future had in store.
During that flight I thought about the people and places we met. The makers, bathers, and surfers along the way. I thought about the verdant landscapes I could barely comprehend, and in contrast, a glacier that had retreated so far back you could now stand on the stone it once covered. I thought about how a single suitcase allowed me to reassess what I really need in my day-to-day. And lastly, my deep love for soapmaking ~ the time-honored, utilitarian beauty of the bar that intrigued me for years. Somewhere over the Pacific ocean, I felt a pull.
That summer I meticulously researched, sourced, and tested recipes for a soap that was gently cleansing and deeply nourishing for the most sensitive skin types. A bar made from mindfully sourced organic plants and free of palm oil and synthetic substances. As I poured myself into it, scent nostalgia crept in and memories from our adventure began to form our first essential oil blends. In December 2018, we launched Wild Lather. And that bar turned out to be a triangle.
For every batch, we take our creamy blend of five organic plant oils (California olive, raw shea butter, fair trade coconut, camellia, and castor), saponify them, and combine them with naturally occurring clays and month-long herbal solar-infusions. We then swirl in the most beautiful sustainably wild harvested and organic steam-distilled essential oils we can source, pour into traditional wooden molds, and patiently wait. Once the soap's solidified, we cut the batch into individual triangles and set them on an airy, open shelf to cure for several weeks ~ a slow, slow process that's so worth the wait.
Today, our offerings are informed by my on-going herbalism education and always with plants, ritual, and utility in mind. Our vegan soaps are packaged in compostable hemp paper boxes and will always be free of plastic, palm oil, synthetic fragrances, artificial colorants, detergents, sulfates, and parabens. Just sweet plants for your self and space ✿ We have since moved to Pasadena, California where we pour batches in our tiny, sunny studio with so much love for the process. Thanks so much for being here, we hope they bring extra peace to your bathing space ♡ Liz + Conrad
